ABOUT THE GRANT

Eryc Taylor Dance provides grants to aspiring choreographers to enable them to produce a 15-20 minute original piece. Eryc Taylor Dance reviews applications and selects grant recipients based on merit, dance experience, passion for choreography, and production innovation.

Award Announcement

  • Eligibility Criteria: 

    • Must reside in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, Hoboken, Jersey City, or Staten Island. 

    • Must not have previously received private, corporate, or government funding for choreography. 

    • Must apply with an original, unperformed concept. 

    • This grant is for individual choreographers only; collaborations or collectives are ineligible. 

    • Applicants must demonstrate strong choreographic vision, with preference given to those collaborating with musicians or artistic designers. 

    • Applicants can not be attending a college or university during the grant period. 

  • Grant recipients will be able to premiere their pieces in New York City in Spring 2026. Eryc Taylor Dance will provide the venue, lighting and sound technicians, and a maximum of six lighting cues per 15-20 minute piece. The grant funds may cover additional costs that Eryc Taylor Dance approves. Additional costs might include venue rental for auditions, rehearsal space, fees, costumes, music, and payment for collaborators. No sets, water, special effects, or elaborate lighting will be allowed. Eryc Taylor Dance may approve the use of props, live music, or elaborate costuming on a case-by-case basis.

    Before receiving grant funds, selected recipients must provide Eryc Taylor Dance with a detailed budget, audition schedules, rehearsal schedules, and venue rental information. The Artistic Director of Eryc Taylor Dance may attend rehearsals and provide advice or critiques on the performance piece.

    Grant recipients will receive funding in two installments. The first installment of $500 will be within two months following award notification. The second installment of $500 will be on the first of the month following the 2026 NCG concert.

    Grant recipients will retain the rights to their choreography. For future performances of their work, choreographers shall use the following credit online and in programs:

    “This piece was made possible by the Eryc Taylor Dancw New Choreographer Grant.”

  • Eligible applications undergo a two-round review and elimination process.

    In Round 1, panelists individually review all applications, and the highest-scoring applications advance to Round 2. In Round 2, the top scoring applicants will participate in a 20-minute one-on-one interviews with ETD Artistic Director, Eryc Taylor. From there, panelists and ETD Board Members engage in a group discussion to evaluate these applications and select the final grant recipients.

    All applicants will be notified, regardless of the outcome, by December 1, 2025.
